Required materials and tools
- 19 x 148 mm (3/4″ x 6″) Pinewood or equivalent
- 20 Screws 3x30mm
- Saw (Hand saw or tablesaw)
- 28 or 32 mm drill
- Screwdriver
- Outdoor glue
- Outdoor paint
Preparation
Cut all the parts to the following dimensions:
- Back wall and sidewalls: 250mm (10″)
- Front wall: 150mm (6″)
- Bottom: 129mm (5″)
Assembly
Screw the sidewalls and back wall together with 3 screws on each side. Secondly, install the bottom approx 10mm (1/2″) recessed from the bottom.
Install the front wall. Use only one screw on each side on the top of the wall. This will make it possible to open the wall.
Cut the top of the house to an 30 degree angle.
Screw the roof to the box.
Paint
If you want the Birdhouse to sustain for several years, it should be painted. Use outdoor paint and only paint the outside of the box. The birds doesn’t like to live in chemicals.
Drill the entrance hole to the dimension of the birds you want to use the birdhouse. 28mm for general tits and 32 for Great tits
Use an hook on to lock the front wall in place. A regular screw can be used, but then a screwdriver would be required to open the box.
Install
The birdhouse should be places about 1,5 – 2 meter above the ground. Most Importantly, this will prevent cats and other predators to hunt the birds. Further, place the the house in the shadow.
The birdhouse is installed on the wall with screws from the inside of the box.
